Bios (in alphabetical order by first word or name):

Master drummer Bara M'boup hails from Senegal, West Africa ,and has shared the stage with Tina Turner and the Rolling Stones and recorded with Peter Gabriel playing djembe, sabar and junjun. Bara’s specialty is an ensemble of different voiced drums called Sabar. Bara also specializes in Jembe and Tama, and now plays in the Pacific Northwest with drummer and dancer Aliou Diouf and Mamadou Thioub.

Bob and the High 5’s repertoire ranges from German, Scandinavian and other Eastern European pieces to big band and show tunes using a MIDI accordion and synthesizer as well as the alto sax, clarinet and the tuba for a true “oompah” sound. Bob and the High 5’s have appeared at numerous venues throughout the Northwest including the Mt. Angel Oktoberfest and the Skamania County Fair.

Guitaris and lutenist Hideki Yamaya has been active as a performer and teacher in the West Coast for over 12 years. He has a B.A. in Music and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from University of California, Santa Cruz, and an M.F.A. from University of California, Irvine, in Guitar and Lute Performance. An internationally acclaimed musician, Yamaya has performed in Canada, Japan, Great Britain, and Italy.

Hailing from Portland, Instigators is an 8 piece reggae band formed in 1996 and remains a strong presence in the Pacific Northwest. They have been compared to Steel Pulse and Burning Spear and with a flourish of horns and cry of “Yes, this is a conscious time!”do right by their Jamaican predecessors and listeners who like it real. Instigators play real reggae with conscious lyrics with urgent messages of love, unity, respect and environmental concerns.

One World Taiko presents a contemporary style of Japanese drumming that incorporates dynamic and fluid movement as well as heart pounding percussion. The music is drawn from Japan's ancient tradition of lively and spirited festival drumming and infuses One World Taiko’s own creative rhythms, arrangements and choreography, adding a modern spirit to the ancient tradition of Taiko. The group was founded in 1990 in San Francisco, and performs regularly across the country.

The State of Jefferson experience features a unique multi-instrumental blend of horns, strings, and all things groovin'.  The groups draws from the musical genres of Jazz, Reggae, Bluegrass, Funk and World Beat, featuring diversified original and cover music, and carrying a message of peace and fun-filled harmony. The State of Jefferson provides a high-energy, entertaining show suited for people of all ages.
